Qi2 Buying Guide 2025: Everything you need to know to choose the right power bank and wireless charger (15W & 25W)

The Qi2 standard provides magnetic alignment that perfectly secures your phone to the charger, for faster, more efficient, and easier charging. After the first 15W wave, the 25W Qi2 evolution is coming in 2025 on certified bases and power banks—enough to really boost everyday wireless charging.

1) What is Qi2?

Qi2 is the next generation of the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) wireless charging standard. It adds a magnetic profile ( Magnetic Power Profile / MPP ) to automatically align the charger and smartphone coils, reducing losses and improving speed and energy efficiency compared to “classic” Qi.

Specifically, Qi2-certified products provide a widely interoperable 15W charge. And since 2025, the WPC has officially approved Qi2 25W (spec v2.2.1), or nearly +70% more power, with the first compatible chargers/bases and smartphones.

Qi2 vs MagSafe (Apple) : Qi2 takes the idea of magnetic alignment popularized by MagSafe and makes it an open, interoperable standard (iPhone & Android). MagSafe remains the Apple ecosystem, but Qi2 standardizes the magnetic experience on the iPhone and Android side.

2) iPhone & Android Compatibility (2025)

iPhone

  • iPhone 15 / 15 Plus / 15 Pro / 15 Pro Max : Qi2 support up to 15W .
  • iPhone 13 / 14 (all series) : Since iOS 17.2 , these models officially support Qi2 (15 W) — useful for taking advantage of Qi2 chargers without using a MagSafe accessory.
  • iPhone 16 (full lineup) : MagSafe up to 25W (with 30W or higher adapter) and Qi2 up to 15W .

Android

  • Pixel 10 / 10 Pro / 10 Pro XL : Magnetic Qi2 support, with up to 25W on compatible 25W Qi2 chargers.
  • Samsung & others 2025 : Qi2 support is gradually becoming more widespread, with some models being “Qi2 ready” via magnetic cases.

Tip: For Android, check the exact specs for your model and, if necessary, use a compatible magnetic case to take advantage of the alignment. Some ranges already have magnets built in, while others rely on the case.

3) Qi2 15 W vs Qi2 25 W: which power to choose?

Qi2 15W

This is the current baseline: 15W on iPhone 15/15 Pro and iPhone 13/14 (via iOS 17.2), as well as on a growing number of Android devices. In real-world use, 15W Qi2 is already more stable than many “classic” Qi pads, because the magnets ensure the charging sweet spot .

Qi2 25W

New for 2025: 25W Qi2 significantly increases wireless speeds. The first certified docks/bases are arriving, and 2025 smartphones (e.g., the Pixel 10 Pro) are using it. On iPhones, the 16 family benefits from 25W MagSafe (and 15W Qi2).

In short: if your phone handles 25W (e.g. iPhone 16 in MagSafe, Pixel 10 Pro in Qi2 25W), aim for a 25W charger/dock. Otherwise, 15W remains an excellent standard (and 100% compatible).

4) USB-C power supplies: 20 W, 30 W, 45 W… which one to choose?

The power displayed by the wireless charger (15W or 25W) assumes adequate USB-C power supply :

Use Target power Recommended adapter Notes
Pebble/stand Qi2 15 W USB-C 20W (or +) Apple recommendation for MagSafe 15W; valid for Qi2 15W.
Dock/stand Qi2 25W 25 W USB-C 30W (min.) Several brands deliver 45W to ensure full power and supply other ports.
Wired power bank PD 20–30 W USB-C 30W Useful for occasional acceleration (tablet/console).

💡 Tip: A good USB-C cable (e-marker certified) prevents power drops, especially above 30W.

5) Choose your Qi2 (magnetic) power bank carefully

Capacity & energy: mAh and Wh

A Qi2 power bank combines a battery (capacity in mAh / Wh ) and a magnetic wireless module. Remember to convert mAh → Wh : mAh × 3.7 ÷ 1000 ≈ Wh . Wh are useful for comparing real-life autonomy and for air travel (thresholds 100 Wh / 160 Wh).

Power & usage scenarios

  • Qi2 15W wireless (magnetic) + often wired USB-C 20–30W : perfect everyday smartphone.
  • Qi2 25W on powerbank (new wave): more responsive wireless, useful if your phone is 25W compatible.
  • Wired PD/PPS outputs (30–65 W) : For occasional acceleration (tablet/console), keep wireless for convenience.

Shape & ergonomics

  • Magnetic (back of the phone) : holds like a case, ultra practical when on the move.
  • Built-in kickstand: great for standby mode/watching while charging.
  • Integrated cables : practical for wired backup.

Cases & accessories

To maintain proper alignment, use a suitable MagSafe/Qi2 case (thin, ≤ 3 mm); if you are on “Qi2-ready” Android, a magnetic case may be sufficient to benefit from alignment.

6) Qi2 Desktop Chargers & Car Mounts

Desk / nightstand

The 15–25W (2-in-1 / 3-in-1) stands charge phone + earphones (+ watch depending on model). The first 25W 3-in-1 Qi2 stations often come with 45W blocks included.

Car

A good Qi2 car mount combines a secure magnetic hold and 15–25W charging. Consider the vehicle's USB-C power supply : to aim for 25W real power, use a ≥30W cigarette lighter/USB-C adapter.

7) Safety, magnets & health

Certification & Foreign Object Detection (FOD)

Choose certified Qi2 products: certification covers not only power, but also security elements (magnets/alignment, losses, Foreign Object Detection , etc.).

Magnets and medical devices

As with any powerful magnetic accessory (MagSafe/Qi2), keep it away from implanted medical devices (pacemakers/ICDs). If in doubt, consult your doctor and follow the manufacturer's recommendations.

8) Traveling by plane with a Qi2 power bank (Wh rules)

Power banks are “spare” lithium-ion batteries : cabin only . International regulations (FAA / IATA) generally allow: ≤ 100 Wh : OK in cabin; 101–160 Wh : airline approval (usually 2 units max ); > 160 Wh : prohibited for passengers. Always refer to your airline.

Conversion tip: Wh ≈ mAh × 3,7 ÷ 1000 — our product sheets also display the Wh to check “cabin” compliance at a glance.

9) Quick Shopping Checklist (TL;DR)

  • Qi2 compatibility : iPhone 15/16 = 15 W; iPhone 13/14 = 15 W with iOS 17.2; Android 2025 increasingly numerous (Pixel 10 Pro…).
  • 15W or 25W? iPhone 16 (MagSafe 25W) and some Android 2025 take advantage of 25W . Otherwise, 15W is already great.
  • Power supply : 15 W → 20 W recommended ; 25 W → 30 W minimum (45 W often supplied with docks).
  • Qi2 Powerbank : Choose mAh/Wh according to usage; keep a wired USB-C to speed up if needed.
